Eli and The Little Saints
About the Series
Eli and the Little Saints is a faith-based comic and visual storytelling series produced by the Media Wing of St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church, Germany e.V..
Created with love and prayer, the series aims to introduce the Orthodox Christian faith through simple, engaging, and joyful stories—speaking especially to children, while remaining meaningful for families and faithful of all ages.
Through visual storytelling, the series seeks to nurture faith, curiosity, and a living relationship with God within the context of the Church.
Orthodox Faith Foundation
Eli and the Little Saints is firmly rooted in the theology, spirituality, and liturgical life of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, which follows the West Syriac theological tradition.
The stories reflect the lived faith of the Church—shaped by Holy Scripture, Sacred Tradition, the teachings of the Holy Fathers, and the sacramental and liturgical practices handed down through generations.
Through storytelling, the series gently introduces children to:
- The Christ-centered faith of the Malankara Orthodox Church
- The richness of West Syriac theology and liturgical spirituality
- The meaning of prayers, sacraments, and church traditions
- The rhythm of Orthodox Christian life as experienced in worship and community
The series does not seek to simplify or dilute the faith, but rather to present it faithfully and lovingly in a form that children can understand, cherish, and grow with.
The Story
At the heart of the series is Fr. Eli, a warm and gentle Orthodox priest, and a group of curious children known as the Little Saints.
Together, they explore everyday moments of church life—prayer, worship, traditions, values, and relationships—discovering the deeper meaning behind Orthodox practices in a way that is easy to understand and joyful to follow.
Each episode presents a small lesson rooted in:
- Orthodox faith and tradition
- Scripture and prayer
- Christian values such as love, humility, respect, obedience, and fellowship
The Character of Fr. Eli
Fr. Eli is a fictional Orthodox priest character created for educational and spiritual storytelling purposes.
The character draws inspiration from the biblical priest and prophet Eli, described in 1 Samuel 1–4, who served as a spiritual guide and teacher to the young Samuel.
In the Scriptures, Eli helps Samuel recognize the voice of God and teaches him how to respond in obedience and humility, guiding him to say:
“Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.” (1 Samuel 3:9)
This sacred relationship between teacher and disciple serves as the spiritual inspiration for Fr. Eli’s role in the series.
Through Fr. Eli, the comic reflects the Orthodox understanding of priesthood as:
- A ministry of spiritual fatherhood and guidance
- Helping children recognize God’s presence in prayer and daily life
- Teaching faith through gentleness, patience, and pastoral care
While inspired by the biblical figure, Fr. Eli remains a fictional character, created to help children encounter the Orthodox faith in a personal, relatable, and joyful way.
